Delaware Students Can Now Consume Medical Cannabis at School

The Governor of Delaware has recently signed an order into law that allows students to have access to their cannabis-based medication on school grounds. Although the law is not perfect, it is still a significant advance for those who need cannabis treatment.

According to the new law, caregivers and parents in Delaware will have the right to administer cannabis oil to children and teens who require marijuana treatment at school. Students are allowed to receive medical cannabis on all school grounds, including preschools, primary, and secondary schools as well as school buses. However, the new bill prohibits school nurses and other staff members from giving children cannabis medication.

Earlier, many students were forced to stay without their treatment for the whole day, which caused some of them to have behavioral issues and the worsening of symptoms. The new measure will increase the number of individuals who can receive cannabis medication as well as improve the quality of life of patients who currently use marijuana treatment.

Delaware is not the first state to allow medical cannabis during school hours. New Jersey was the first one to allow students access to their marijuana medication on school property. To have this opportunity, students must be diagnosed with one of the serious conditions and obtain a legal prescription from a doctor.

As more and more states legalize cannabis, many patients who require cannabis medication will have legal access to their treatment.
