New Hampshire on the Verge of Decriminalizing Cannabis

New Hampshire is likely to join the other states of New England in decriminalizing marijuana as soon as its governor, Chris Sununu, signs the bill.

The New Hampshire House has recently voted for the decriminalization of possession of small amounts of weed.

The new bill that passed without any debate on Thursday is currently waiting for the governor’s signature. When Republican Chris Sununu signs the measure, New Hampshire will become one more state of the New England region that has removed all criminal penalties for pot possession.

The House voted for changing possession of up to an ounce of marijuana from a misdemeanor to a violation-level office. However, the Senate revised it and made it three-quarters of an ounce, and the House agreed to the change.

Supporters believe the new rules will make sure that the lives of young people are not ruined due to getting caught with the herb. At the same time, opponents warn that decriminalization is a wrong way to go because the state is currently fighting a drug crisis.

New Frontier Data estimated employment within the industry may reach 300,000 by 2020.
